I Want to Tell My Wife About My BBC Fantasy. How Do I Start?

7 min read

A reader named Joshua wrote to me with a question I hear more than any other: “I want to talk to my wife about my BBC fantasy. How do I do it?”

I’ve written before about how to ask your wife about hotwifing, which covers the slow build: fantasy talk, timing and pace. This post is about something smaller and, for many husbands, harder. It’s the moment you open your mouth and confess. Not a proposal or a plan, just the truth about what goes on in your head.

My husband did this with me years ago, sitting on the edge of our bed with his hands shaking. So here’s what I wish he’d known going in, and what I’ve heard from other wives since.

Make Peace With It Before You Say It

Most men who write to me aren’t really afraid of their wife. They’re afraid of what the fantasy says about them. Am I weak? Is something wrong with me? Does it mean I don’t love her?

Here’s the truth from someone who lives this: wanting your wife to be desired, really desired, by a man who’s very different from you is one of the most common fantasies married men carry. It isn’t a flaw. Lots of loving, steady husbands have it.

If you go into the conversation ashamed, she’ll pick up on the shame before she ever hears the fantasy. She’ll think you’re confessing a problem. If you go in calm and a little shy but sure of yourself, she’ll hear it for what it is: something private and honest that you trust her with.

Try saying it out loud to yourself first, in the car or the shower. “I fantasize about my wife with a Black man.” Say it until it sounds like a sentence and not a crime.

Know Your Why

She’s going to ask why. Have a real answer, not “I don’t know, it’s just hot.”

For most husbands, it comes back to wanting the best for her. They want her to feel wanted, to be seen as the woman they already see. They want to watch her lose herself and know she’s coming home to them. I wrote a whole piece on why husbands want BBC for their wife if you need help finding your words. Read it, and notice which parts make your chest tighten. That’s your why.

Choose the Moment

You know your wife better than I do, but in my experience a few moments work well:

  • Lying in bed in the dark, when faces are hard to see and voices get softer.

  • A long drive, side by side, where nobody has to make eye contact.

  • A slow morning with coffee and nowhere to be.

Avoid nights with alcohol, the middle of sex, and any week when she’s stretched thin. You want her to have room to think, not just react.

The Words: Openers That Actually Work

Here’s where most men freeze. So steal these, or change them to sound like you.

The soft opener:
“Can I tell you something I’ve never told anyone? It’s a little embarrassing, and you don’t have to do anything with it. I just don’t want to keep secrets from you.”

The story bridge:
Find a story here on the site that gets close to what you feel. Then: “I read something the other day and I can’t stop thinking about it. Would you read it and tell me what you think? Not because I want anything. I just want to know what you think.”

Some wives find it easier to react to a character than to a husband.

The “what if” question:
“Do you ever wonder what it would be like if things were different? Like if another man wanted you, and I was totally okay with it?” Ask it lightly and let her answer however she wants.

The letter:
If you lose your words when you’re nervous, write them down. Something like:

“I love you and I’m happy with us. There’s a fantasy I’ve had for a long time, and I’d rather you know it than keep it hidden. I think about you being desired by another man, specifically a Black man, and about how proud and close to you I’d feel. I’m not asking for anything. I just wanted you to know me completely. We can talk about it whenever you want, or never.”

Hand it to her, then leave the room for a little while. Give her privacy to feel whatever she feels.

Say Out Loud What It Isn’t

Whatever opener you use, say these two things clearly, because her mind will go there:

  1. “I’m not unhappy with us.” Many wives’ first fear is that they aren’t enough. Tell her exactly what you love about her body, her laugh and your life together.
  2. “This is an invitation, not a request.” Tell her there’s no timeline and no expected answer, and that nothing changes unless she wants it to.

What to Say When She Reacts

If she laughs: Laugh with her. “I know, right? I’ve been sitting on that for years.” Laughter often means relief or surprise, not mockery. Don’t get defensive.

If she’s hurt: Slow down. “I’m sorry it landed that way. I’m not telling you this because something’s missing. I’m telling you because I trust you more than anyone.” Then listen. Let her ask anything, and answer honestly.

If she’s curious: Don’t jump. This is where husbands get overexcited and ruin it. Ask her: “What part made you curious?” Let her talk. Curiosity is a door cracking open, so don’t kick it.

If she says no: “Thank you for hearing me. That’s completely okay.” Then mean it. Don’t bring it back up next week. If she ever wants to return to it, she knows it’s there. A no handled kindly keeps her trust, and so does keeping your word afterward.

Let Her Hold the Pace

Once it’s said, it belongs to both of you, but she holds the steering wheel. Some wives want to talk about it once a month. Some want to talk about it only during sex, as a fantasy and nothing more. Some may never bring it up again, and that has to be okay.

From what I’ve seen, the husbands who wait end up getting more in the long run than the ones who push.

Make It About the Two of You

Here’s the secret my husband stumbled into: the confession itself became one of the most intimate nights of our marriage. Not because of any plan. It was because he’d shown me something vulnerable and I’d held it.

Let the conversation pull you closer. Hold her. Tell her she’s the only woman you want. If she wants to tease you about it, let her. If she wants to whisper a “what if” back to you in the dark, that’s a gift, not a contract.

Your goal tonight isn’t a plan. It’s being known by your wife and still loved by her.

Do and Don’t

Do:

  • Practice saying it out loud first.

  • Lead with love and reassurance.

  • Use a story or letter if words fail you.

  • Ask her questions and listen more than you talk.

  • Accept any answer, including no, with grace.

Don’t:

  • Confess while drunk or mid-argument.

  • Show her porn as your opener.

  • Turn it into a pitch, a negotiation or a deadline.

  • Bring up specific men or meetups.

  • Sulk, pressure her or keep raising it after a no.

A Note on Consent

This lifestyle only works when every adult involved wants to be there, freely and enthusiastically. Telling her your fantasy gives her information, not an obligation. She can say no, say “not yet,” or say yes and later change her mind, and every one of those answers deserves your respect. If you ever move past fantasy, it should be because she’s leading the way.
